Frequently Asked Questions
Do you only help seniors?
Not at all. While we specialise in supporting older adults and their families, our move management service is for anyone who feels overwhelmed by the thought of moving or downsizing. We can help with all aspects of preparing a home for sale. We can coordinate with removal companies, and provide practical settling-in support — so you can feel at home from day one.
Can you help my elderly parents move house?
Yes. Many of our clients are families who want to support older parents but can’t always be there in person. We help with the hardest part of moving — deciding what to take, what to gift, and how to make a new space feel like home. On move day, we’re there alongside the removal company: making beds, unpacking essentials, setting up TVs or Wi-Fi, and ensuring everything feels comfortable right away.
What if I don’t want to let go of anything?
That’s completely normal. Downsizing doesn’t mean losing what matters; it’s about making thoughtful choices. We work at your pace, guiding decisions with sensitivity and making sure the things you love most are unpacked and ready in your new home.
Do you only help seniors?
Not at all. While we specialise in supporting older adults and their families, our move management service is for anyone who feels overwhelmed by the thought of moving or downsizing. We help with sorting and decision-making beforehand, coordinate with removal companies, and provide practical settling-in support — so you can feel at home from day one.
Do I need a Move Manager?
Not everyone knows the term “Move Manager.” You might be searching for moving help for parents, downsizing support in later life, or just an extra pair of hands to make a move less stressful. That’s exactly what we do. We guide older adults and their families through rightsizing or downsizing, moving, and making a new home feel comfortable — with practical help and peace of mind at every stage.
What is a Move Manager?
A Move Manager coordinates and simplifies the moving process. Instead of focusing on packing boxes, we focus on the decisions and details — helping you sort belongings, working with trusted removal companies, and then making your new home comfortable from the first day. That might mean making beds, plugging in lamps, or setting up TVs and Wi-Fi, so you or your loved ones can settle in straight away.
How are you different from a removal company?
We are completely different. A removal company’s role is limited: they will pack, store, transport, and usually only unpack the basics. Dorset Move Management goes much further. We guide the important decisions about what to take (and what not to), coordinate the whole process with everyone involved, and make sure your new home feels comfortable from day one — from making beds and arranging furniture to setting up lamps, TVs, and Wi-Fi. Because we’re completely independent, our only priority is you and your family.
Is your service professional and regulated?
Yes. I am trained with the National Association of Senior & Speciality Move Managers (NASMM), fully insured, DBS checked, and ICO registered. Families can feel confident that my service is not only caring and personal, but also professional and accountable.
How are you different from professional organisers?
Our focus is on supporting older adults and their families through moves, downsizing and life transitions. While general organisers may focus on tidying or streamlining spaces, Suzanne brings specialist training with the National Association of Senior & Speciality Move Managers (NASMM), a professional background in managing complex projects, and first-hand experience of more than 26 moves. She also understands the conveyancing process and how property timelines can impact a move, helping families plan with greater confidence. This mix of experience and insight ensures every transition is managed with both efficiency and sensitivity.
Do you only help people who are moving home?
No. We also help with decluttering for comfort and safety, preparing homes for sale, or organising possessions after life changes such as bereavement or retirement.
How do you work with families?
We are often hired by clients who want to help their parents but cannot because of time or distance. We can involve family members as much or as little as you wish. Our shared plans and clear updates keep everyone informed — especially helpful if relatives live far away.
What areas do you cover?
We’re based in Dorset and most often work in and around Dorchester, Weymouth, Poole, Sherborne, Yeovil, Bridport, Beaminster and across to Axminster and Sidmouth. We also cover wider Dorset, South Somerset and East Devon. If you’re unsure, just ask.
Is your service expensive?
Not at all. We tailor our support to different needs and budgets — some clients want full move management, others just a few hours of help. Having worked with national senior move organisations in the past, I know those services often add membership or referral costs. As an independent provider, Dorset Move Management offers the same high standards more directly, so you only pay for the support you need, agreed clearly up front.
Can you help with decluttering before a move?
Yes — and it’s a key step in a smooth move. We help you decide what to keep, gift, sell, donate, or recycle, always working at your pace.
